The PGA Tour announced on Wednesday that Brooks Koepka had withdrawn from the 2022 AT&T Byron Nelson this week at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney TX.

Prior to his withdrawal, many experts and analysts in the golf community had Koepka on their shortlist of golfers who could do well at TPC Craig Ranch, as this is the last stop prior to the PGA Championship next week.

It is unclear the nature of the withdrawal for the once top-ranked golfer in the World. Koepka has been battling neck, knee, and hip injuries the last few seasons, including a surgery that he had on his right knee to repair a dislocated kneecap and some ligament damage in March of 2021.

At the Valspar Championship back in March of 2022, the 32-year-old Koepka was adamant with reporters that he was as healthy as he had been in five years.

"“I was actually thinking about it today,” Koepka said, “It would be one of the first times in like five years I’ve been healthy. I think I missed it in 2017 or 2018, my wrist; 2019, I was healthy; 2020, my left knee. And then my right knee. And then it’s like, all right, I’m just ready to be healthy to play it.”"

Brooks Koepka hasn’t played in a tournament since missing the cut at the Masters back in April. Prior to that, he was battling to find consistency with his game, missing the cut in six of his 13 PGA Tour starts. When he did hang around, he managed to finish with two top-10 finishes and four top-25 finishes.

This recent announcement does not seem to bode well for the 32-year-old Koepka’s participation in next week’s PGA Championship at the Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He will be headed to the major with pretty minimal competitive practice, something that he seemingly needs – currently ranked 70th off-the-tee, 110th on approach, and 108th tee-to-green.

The 2022 AT&T Byron Nelson will continue without Brooks Koepka. The 67th-FedExCup-ranked Koepka was replaced by Satoshi Kodaira of Tokyo, Japan. Another notable withdrawal was Brian Harman, who had just finished tied for ninth at the Wells Fargo Championship last weekend, he withdrew from the event on Tuesday.
