Fantasy Golf: 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge DFS Picks
By Hans Geevers
This week, the PGA Tour returns to the state of Texas for the 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge. Let’s take a look at this week’s PGA Tour event from a fantasy golf perspective.
Before I discuss my fantasy golf player selections I wanted to emphasize that the purpose of this article is not to provide an exact lineup for a specific fantasy provider. Having stated that, this article will provide multiple player options in an effort to assist the reader in generating a unique lineup that will hopefully have the potential to win a GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest!
*This will be the 50th consecutive year that the Charles Schwab Challenge has been played at Colonial Country Club. It is the longest-running non-major event held at the same site.
Here are my fantasy golf/DFS player selections for the 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge.
Abraham Ancer
Abraham Ancer fired a first-round 67 at last week’s 2022 PGA Championship en route to an eventual ninth-place finish.
In relation to this week’s current listed 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Abraham Ancer ranks tenth in bogey avoidance, 11th in GIR (greens in regulation), and tenth in strokes gained off the tee.
It should also be noted that Ancer finished 14th at the 2021 Charles Schwab Challenge.
Rickie Fowler
Full transparency, Rickie Fowler certainly has had his struggles posting quality golf results on the PGA Tour this season. However, based on his most recent results, it appears that Rickie Fowler’s game is trending in a positive direction. Let me be more specific. Fowler arrives at this week’s 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge on the heels of two consecutive top 23 finishes on the PGA Tour, including a 21st place result at the 2022 Wells Fargo Championship two weeks ago.
I also like the fact that Rickie Fowler has played well at this week’s PGA Tour event in the past. Fowler finished 14th at the 2018 Charles Schwab Challenge.
Gary Woodland
Since the beginning of March, Gary Woodland has played nine tournaments on the PGA Tour. In those nine events just mentioned, Woodland has accumulated five top 24 finishes, including a fifth-place result at the 2022 Arnold Palmer Invitational in March.
In relation to this week’s current listed 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge field, in the last 36 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Gary Woodland ranks third in bogey avoidance and 16th in GIR (greens in regulation).
Adam Long
Adam Long has accumulated two top 15 finishes in his last three tournaments played on the PGA Tour, including a 12th place result at the 2022 RBC Heritage last month.
Based on my experience playing DFS/fantasy golf, Adam Long always seems to find his way to a top 20 finish in PGA tournaments with less than stellar fields of talent. Having stated that, I fully expect Adam Long to play well at this week’s 2022 Charles Schwab Challenge.
Vince Whaley
The 27-year-old American has accumulated three top 29 finishes in his last five tournaments played on the PGA Tour, including a 25th place result at the 2022 Byron Nelson two weeks ago.
Vince Whaley also finished 20th at the 2021 Charles Schwab Challenge.
Additional golfers I like this week: Jordan Spieth: Brian Harman: Justin Rose.
