Cameron Young has been one of the top performers of the 2021-22 PGA Tour season, even without a win.

The rookie out of Wake Forest has hit the ground running after graduating from the Korn Ferry Tour. Young recorded a T-2nd finish in his second career PGA Tour start at the Sanderson Farms Championship.

Young was also runner-up at the Genesis Invitational and Wells Fargo Championship as well as T-3rd at the RBC Heritage and PGA Championship. Only five golfers combined have beaten the man in his last three starts.

He was right in the thick of things in his last start a couple weeks ago at Southern Hills. Young briefly shared the lead on the back nine Sunday before ultimately finishing a shot out of a playoff.

A major championship would have been a sweet way to break into the winner’s circle, but the reps he got in the cauldron of contention were invaluable.

“I think I’ve made so many mistakes, even in tournaments that I’ve been close to winning. I think it proves to me that not only can I win, but I can win by a lot,” Young was transcribed by ASAP Sports. “I just have to wait for that to come together.”

The 25-year-old is the front runner for Rookie of the Year.

He could all but lock up those honors with a win. Especially if it came this week at a prestigious tournament like the Memorial.

This is Young’s first visit to Muirfield Village.

The New Yorker can obliterate the ball. He’s second on the PGA Tour in strokes gained off the tee (.95) and eighth in driving distance (317.2). He’s 14th in SG tee to green (1.285) and, like most young (no pun intended) players, he just needs to tidy up his short game and putting to start turning those near misses into victories.

Young is fifth in birdie average (4.52) and first in proximity from 200-plus yard approaches from the rough (58’9”).

He’s played a lot of golf this year, so a week off last week will be just what the doctor ordered to regroup from Tulsa and get back in the mix.
