Shane Lowry has been one of the best players on the PGA Tour this season without a win.
The Irishman had some misfortune at the Honda Classic where poor weather down the stretch caused him to cede the victory to Sepp Straka. Lowry got back on the horse to take T-3rd at the Masters. He wasn’t a huge factor at Augusta National, but he was certainly in the mix a week later at the RBC Heritage.
Lowry had chances down the stretch at Harbour Town to seal the deal, but ultimately it was Jordan Spieth’s week.
After missing a pair of starts on the PGA Tour last fall, he’s made seven straight stroke play cuts in a row.
Lowry teed it up last week at the Memorial Tournament. He was primed for another high finish before a Sunday 76 dropped him to T-32nd.
The 35-year-old ranks ninth on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained (1.574) and is 55th or better in every category. He’s 11th in SG approach (.706) and 14th in SG putting (.579).
He rarely produces a clunker of a round and is sixth in scoring average (69.554).
Lowry is a good sand player, too (8th, 64.41%).
Lowry’s not overly long, but that’s not a requisite at St. George’s, where he’s making his debut.
He’s not a stranger to the RBC Canadian Open. Lowry tied for second in 2019 and took T-12th in 2018.
He hasn’t missed a cut since November. I don’t see that streak coming to an end as he should be among the contenders this week in Ontario.
