Rickie Fowler to miss second consecutive U.S. Open after failing to qualify on Monday.

For the second consecutive year, one of the biggest names in golf will not be involved in the U.S. Open. Rickie Fowler narrowly missed out on qualifying for the 2022 U.S. Open on Monday and will have to wait for 2023 for another opportunity now.

Fowler, who last played in the U.S. Open in 2020 at Winged Foot, missed out on qualification by an agonizing one shot.

Qualifiers for the year’s third Major Championship took place all across the country on Monday, yet focus on the upcoming Major was not at the center of headlines on a busy day, instead, the focus was on the upcoming inaugural LIV Golf event and who would be filling the last few spots in the initial event.

Phil Mickelson, as was largely expected, officially confirmed that he would be participating in the first event at the Centurian Club on Thursday.

Meanwhile, already confirmed participants, Sergio Garcia, Branden Grace, Louis Oosthuizen, and Charl Schwartzel all joined Kevin Na in reportedly announcing that they would also be resigning from the PGA Tour.

Rickie Fowler remains “intrigued” by LIV Golf possibilities

As for Rickie Fowler? he remains “intrigued” by LIV Golf but reportedly plans to remain with the PGA Tour, for now at least.

The 2015 Players Champion had publicly confirmed prior to last month’s PGA Championship that he had, in fact, been approached by LIV Golf previously.  He also stated at Southern Hills that he believed competition was good in any aspect of life saying:

"“I’ve always looked at competition being a good thing. It’s the driving force of our game. You know, being able to have games with guys at home, that’s how I always grew up is competing. I think competition ultimately makes people better, whether it’s business, sport.”"
