Collin Morikawa’s got one of the highest basements in golf. His game is currently bottoming out, so to speak, but he’s still missed just two cuts in 2022. He has four top-10s, including solo fifth at the Masters.

The electricity of his rookie and sophomore years isn’t quite there. It will shock no one if it comes back this week.

If you’re not too worried about his last four results of T-26th, T-55th, T-40th, and a MC, you can get good value on the two-time major champ.

Speaking of majors, Morikawa has teed it up in 10 of them. The former Cal Golden bear made nine cuts with five top-10s.

Morikawa’s made two of three U.S. Open cuts with a T-4th last year.

His result at Torrey Pines was impressive, shooting three under-par rounds after opening in 75.

The 25-year-old ranks sixth on the PGA Tour in strokes gained approach (.806). That type of precision will be key attacking The Country Club’s tiny greens.

While the greens will be quick and undulating, they are not large, which should help a poor putter like Morikawa.

He switched to a mallet putter at the Memorial Tournament. It didn’t pay dividends at Muirfield Village, but a week off last week will give him time to get more comfortable.

There are too many other guys playing better right now to keep him from ascending higher in the rankings, but Morikawa is due to get back on the horse and contend on a big stage.
