Jon Rahm is set to defend his U.S. Open title on the opposite side of the country.

The Spaniard won his maiden major last year when he came back on Sunday to win at Torrey Pines in dramatic fashion. Scores of 69-70-72-67 gave him a one-shot victory over Louis Oosthuizen.

That looked like it’d open the floodgates, but it took until the Mexico Open in April for Rahmbo to win again. Fortunately for him, he’s still played well, absent some more trophies.

The 27-year-old finished T-10th in his last start a couple weeks ago at the Memorial Tournament. He can take momentum from tying the low round of the day, 3-under 69, on Sunday.

Rahm hasn’t missed a cut on the PGA Tour since September.

He was runner-up at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, his first of six top-10s in 2022.

The Arizona State alum is teeing it up in his 24th major this week at The Country Club. He’s made 11 straight cuts and has missed just four overall. He owns nine top-10s. He was in the top-10 in all four majors in 2021.

This year’s slate has been a bit of a disappointment with T-27th at the Masters and T-48th at the U.S. Open.

Rahm was low amateur (T-23rd) at the 2016 U.S. Open, one of four made cuts in six starts at this event. He took T-3rd in 2019 at Pebble Beach.

A win won’t push Rahm past Scottie Scheffler for world No. 1, but it’d put him right in his sets for the rest of the summer. Rahm last held the top spot in the Official World Golf Ranking in mid-March.

Rahm can keep up with all the bombers and is one of the most accurate among them. He’s first on the PGA Tour in strokes gained off the tee (1.194). The Country Club is relatively short, but there are bottlenecks Rahm can look to take on if he’s hitting it well.
