2022 U.S. Open: Top 10 Power Rankings at The Country Club
Scottie Scheffler has done just about everything in the game of golf. One accomplishment he failed to achieve was winning a U.S. Amateur.
Scheffler came fairly close in 2013 when he made a run as a 17-year-old to the quarterfinals at The Country Club. The former Texas Longhorn made it to the 18th hole in his final match before falling 1UP to Brady Watt.
Scheffler played a lot of good golf that week at Brookline and has all the tools to have an even better result nine years later.
Scheffler had one of the more historic three-run stretches of all time February through April. Four wins highlighted by his Masters triumph rocketed him to world No. 1.
Even with a bit of a homemade swing, he’s displayed a well-rounded game that can win on a variety of course types, conditions, and even formats with the win at the WGC-Dell Match Play.
Scheffler has come back down to earth a bit after Augusta National, but has still played well.
A rare missed cut at the PGA Championship was surrounded by three top-20s and a made cut with Ryan Palmer at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
The 25-year-old bounced back the next week to nearly win the Charles Schwab Challenge, losing in a playoff to the only other player on the PGA Tour with three-plus wins this season, Sam Burns.
Scheffler got in a tune-up last week at the RBC Canadian Open. Three rounds in the 60s helped him to T-18th.
Even while going winless for his first year-plus on Tour, Scheffler was rock solid in the majors. Prior to Southern Hills, he made six straight cuts in majors with four top-10s.
The key will be accuracy off the tee. Scheffler has the short game at 26th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained around the green (.338) and putter (35th, .361) to hang around even if it’s a ‘B’ week ball striking.
Scheffler hits tons of greens (71.39%) and is 29th in proximity from the rough (43’2”).
