Some of the best players in the World are in contention at Brookline, but for others, it was a struggle to stick around at all.

The 2022 U.S. Open leaderboard features some of the biggest names in the World and we are set for an exhilarating moving day heading into the weekend.

Two-time Major champion Collin Morikawa leads the way at the top alongside surprise journeyman Joel Dahmen who both sit at -5 heading into the weekend.

It’s anyone’s guess as to who will separate themselves from the pack over the next two days, the one thing that is certain is that there are some massive names in the hunt, it is the kind of leaderboard that fans could only dream about coming into the week.

Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy, Scottie Scheffler, Sam Burns, Xander Schauffele, Will Zalatoris, Brooks Koepka, and Hideki Matsuyama are all within five shots of the lead, and that doesn’t even include several other big-name stars just a further shot back of that.

It wasn’t a great week for everyone though, here is a look at those who won’t be sticking around for the weekend.

Who narrowly missed the cut at this year’s U.S. Open?

Memorial winner Billy Horschel missed the cutline by a single stroke after finishing the week at +4.

Horschel is joined by 2019 British Open winner Shane Lowry, 2012 U.S. Open winner Webb Simpson, 2017 Masters champion Sergio Garcia, Mito Pereira, and Corey Conners, amongst the group that just barely missed out this week.

Sadly, Cameron Young’s Ace wasn’t enough to keep him around for the weekend after the talented young golfer had an absolutely wild round.

What about the LIV Tour guys?

It was, by and large, a struggle for the majority of the big-name LIV players. Dustin Johnson was the lone exception of guys to make the cut, at least amongst those who have already played one LIV event.

Also, Richard Bland made the weekend if you wish to count him.

The aforementioned Sergio Garcia will join Talor Gooch, Kevin Na, and Louis Oosthuizen, all of whom will be packing their bags.

What about Phil Mickelson?

It was a bad week for Phil Mickelson. In what has been a turbulent year, to say the least, last year’s PGA champion shot 11 over par for the week, a margin that was only better than sixteen or so others in this year’s U.S. Open. Happy Birthday Phil…

Other big-name PGA stars to miss the cut?

Tony Finau, Daniel Berger, this year’s Players Champion Cameron Smith, and Viktor Hovland, who had a historically bad nine-holes on Friday, are a few of the notable names to miss out this week.

There will be some big omissions from the weekend at Brookline, but there are still plenty of big names to watch in what looks to be a tantalizing weekend ahead full of action at this year’s U.S. Open.
