Sungjae Im missed the cut at last week’s U.S. Open, snapping a streak of six straight stroke play cuts made in a row and nine of the last 10.

The South Korean star has missed two cuts in a row just once since 2019, so expect for him to refind his footing this week in Connecticut.

Im has played the weekend both times at the Travelers Championship. He posted 68-69-71-66 for T-21st in 2019 and 68-68-71-68 for T-58th in 2020.

Even just one round in the 70s is usually a death knell for a player’s chances to win. Now that Im’s like a batter on the third time around a pitcher, I like him to swing for the fences a bit more and both card a 65 or better round and be in the 60s all four days.

In 2020, he didn’t have any double bogeys all week but made just 14 birdies.

Before his blunder in Brookline, Im took T-10th against a good field at the Memorial Tournament presented by Nationwide to cap a run of four straight top-21s.

Im is 13th on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained (1.509).

Sungjae was a winner last fall at the Shriners Children’s Open and he’s up to six top-10s on the season. He is due to grab another trophy in 2022.

The 24-year-old is eighth in greens in regulation (70%) and 18th in sand saves (60.44%).

Im is in the positive in every strokes gained category this season on the PGA Tour. He’s ninth tee to green (1.354) and is a fairways and greens machine when he’s cooking.

Im is also fifth in SG approach (.511).
