2022 Travelers Championship: Top 10 Power Rankings at TPC River Highlands
There aren’t many courses on the PGA Tour where Justin Thomas has played consistently and not won.
For some reason, TPC River Highlands has been a tough nut to crack with three missed cuts in seven starts. It’s not all doom and gloom at the Travelers Championship for JT. He finished just two shots off the pace in 2016 when he tied the low round of the tournament (62) on Sunday to climb to T-3rd.
“…they’ve always done — at least when I played, a tremendous job of setting up the golf course to where it rewards good golf and you can get after it if you’re driving the ball well and have control of your irons, but if you’re not driving it well, you don’t get it in the right spots around the greens, it is tough to get up-and-down and it is hard to make pars,” Thomas was transcribed in 2018 by ASAP Sports. “That’s something that I think is really rare nowadays, but it’s also really hard on a golf course design to have that done, so this place does a great job of that.”
Thomas made his fifth cut in a row at the majors last week.
He left The Country Club disappointed with a T-37th finish. He was my pick to click last week coming off his PGA Championship win and third place against a tough leaderboard two weeks ago at the RBC Canadian Open.
Thomas is a fiery competitor who will look to get the bad taste from Brookline out of his mouth.
The former Alabama Crimson Tide ranks third on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained per round (2.035). He’s in the top 40 of all SG categories and top 20 except for putting. JT won’t be able to show off his driving distance as much this week, but his iron play is a weapon wherever he goes.
He’s sixth in SG approach (.795) and from key distances this week, he’s first from 50-125 yards (14’3”), and top-10 from every 25-yard increment from 125-200 yards.
