When will enough be enough? After coming up short yet again, is Will Zalatoris’ time coming up, or is it starting to run out?

The young American stood over a putt on the 72nd hole needing a birdie to tie Matt Fitzpatrick and force a playoff, however, his putt slid by the left edge of the hole, bringing him to his knees.

Zalatoris is no stranger to agonizing defeats, having finished second to Justin Thomas in a playoff in this year’s PGA Championship.

In his first nine major starts, he’s racked up six top-tens and three runner-up finishes.

“This one hurts in particular pretty hard, but it’s motivating. I’ve got to keep doing what I’m doing. I know I’m going to get one sooner or later,” Zalatoris said after his round on Sunday.

You have to admire his poise after losing like that, not only once, but in back-to-back majors. However, with all of the near-misses he’s had in majors, will he and can he reach that next step and win a major?

His consistency and his composure are reasons to think he has what it takes to win a major. Not to mention, his attitude when facing defeat.

There’s no doubting he’s got the game to win a major, but he just has to fix his putting woes.

However, even with his struggles on the greens, he managed no three-putts this week. There’s no doubting his talent and his ability to play well under pressure. He definitely has the game to win a major, so can he finally figure it out and put it all together?

All eyes will certainly be on him at the Old Course for the Open Championship in about a month. As Zalatoris said, it’s only a matter of time before he finally breaks through for that first major.
