2022 John Deere Classic: Top 10 Power Rankings at TPC Deere Run
There aren’t many players in the field who have more reps at TPC Deere Run than Lucas Glover. This will be his 13th visit to TPC Deere Run.
The gloveless Glover used his course knowledge to his advantage last year to record scores of 68-63-70-64.
He was five groups ahead of the leaders on Sunday and erased a four-shot deficit entering the day. Usually, you’re toast at this event if you fail to break 70 all four days.
It took five birdies in his last six holes to win by two.
Glover’s 265 total was the second-highest winning score in the last seven editions.
He’ll take the win however he can get it. Especially here, since he got a sponsor’s exemption into the field when he needed starts as a rookie in 2002.
“Yeah, it means a lot to win here,” Glover was transcribed by ASAP Sports. “Anywhere is a good one, but the people here do such a great job with the event and support the tournament, support us so much. I’m happy to be their champion for a year.”
Glover has made seven of 11 cuts and also took T-11th (71-69-65-67) in 2007.
The former Clemson Tiger has made four cuts in a row.
The streak is highlighted by T-23rd at the PGA Championship.
He also made the cut at the Masters (T-30th), but will need to play his way into The Open Championship if he wants to go 3-for-3 at the majors.
Glover has more top-30s (5) than missed cuts (4) this season.
Approach play is important this week at a second-shot golf course like TPC Deere Run. The 43-year-old is still one of the best ball strikers out there when clicking. Glover’s 36th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained approach per round (.433) and is 13th in driving accuracy (68.49%).
