2022 John Deere Classic: Top 10 Power Rankings at TPC Deere Run
Jason Day’s one of the notable names in the field. He’s making his first John Deere Classic appearance since 2011.
Webb Simpson sees Day’s 11-year absence and raises him one more. Simpson’s teed it up three times at TPC Deere Run between 2008-2010.
After missing the cut as a rookie in 2008, Simpson improved to T-39th (68-69-68-72) then T-21st (67-66-70-70).
Simpson is already qualified for The Open Championship. He’s still got a little work to do to lock up his spot in the FedEx Cup Playoffs, so he’ll look to have a big week in that regard.
The Wake Forest alum bounced back from a missed cut at the U.S. Open to take T-13th last week at the Travelers Championship. Three rounds in the 60s, including an opening 64, helped Simpson to his third made cut in his last four tries and sixth top-30 this season.
He didn’t make a double bogey or worse all week in Hartford and was 15th in total strokes gained tee to green (5.653).
The 36-year-old is vying for his sixth PGA Tour win.
The last was at the 2020 RBC Heritage.
He’s 48th this season in total strokes gained per round (.679) and is in the positive in every SG category. This is a week for shorter hitters to shine. Simpson is 99th (299 yards) in driving distance and 28th (66.09%) in driving accuracy.
He’s also 46th in approach proximity from 100-125 yards (18’5”) and 125-150 yards (22’2”), as well as first from 50-75 yards (6’3”).
