Amidst The LIV Storm Something Special Is Happening On The PGA Tour
While the golfing and sports world is consumed by LIV Golf, something special is brewing on the PGA Tour this week.
Amidst the looming LIV Golf cloud, something special, perhaps even career and life-changing will happen on the PGA Tour at this week’s John Deere Classic.
This week’s John Deere Classic certainly won’t be remembered for its strength of field, in fact, it fails in comparison to both of this week’s two other events, the Irish Open and LIV Golf’s Portland event.
But come Sunday evening the 2022 John Deere Classic will stay with someone for the rest of their lives.
That is what makes each and every event on the PGA Tour special.
Let’s start with J.T. Poston, the 29-year-old who goes into Sunday’s final round with a three-shot advantage.
Poston will be vying to become one of a handful of players already this season to go wire to wire after having held the lead throughout each of the first three days in Silvis, Illinois.
The World’s 99th-ranked player will be aiming for a second career win on Sunday, adding to the one he picked up at the Wyndham Championship on the PGA Tour back in 2019.
J.T. will be hoping to vanquish some demons on Sunday after he came up agonizingly short in a playoff loss at last year’s Barbusol Championship.
Three players enter the final round three shots adrift of Poston’s lead, two of the group of three are winners on the PGA Tour previously, but to say it has been a while would be an understatement.
Scott Stallings, a three-time winner on the PGA Tour, has been waiting for over eight years now for that elusive fourth career win. His last win came back at the 2014 Farmers Insurance Open.
Since his last win, Stallings has completely transformed himself after a meeting with a health professional and he now feels blessed to just have a second opportunity out there.
Argentinian Emiliano Grillo exploded onto the scene during his rookie PGA Tour season winning immediately at the 2015 Frys.com Open.
The 29-year-old has shown a lot of potential throughout his career but a second PGA Tour win has proven difficult to come by.
Then there are the guys seeking a first-ever career victory. Players like Englishman Callum Tarren who finally made it onto the PGA Tour this season after six years as a professional, or Chris Naegel who Monday qualified for the John Deere Classic and now finds himself in contention.
How about Denny McCarthy? a player who will be looking for that breakthrough win on Tour after four years as a PGA member.
So while LIV Golf continues to dominate the headlines, these players at this week’s John Deere Classic will be vying to write their own special story.
Something that is well worth watching in this writer’s humble opinion.
