Jon Rahm was among the bevy of names who had a chance to win the 2021 Scottish Open.

While he settled for solo seventh place, Rahm finished just two shots out of a playoff. He fired rounds of 66-65-69-68 and closed with eight straight pars on Sunday.

Rahm was T-1st in the field in scrambling (100%). He was also seventh in greens in regulation (88.9%).

The Spaniard comes to Scotland well-rested with a couple weeks off after the U.S. Open. Rahm was unable to win back-to-back titles, but he was in the lead late on Saturday and posted T-12th by tournament’s end.

His performance at Brookline earned him his 12th straight made cut, keeping his streak alive throughout 2022. The former Arizona State Sun Devil won this year at the Mexico Open at Vidanta and has six top-10s in the 2021-22 PGA Tour season.

Rahm is making his second appearance at The Renaissance Club.

He’s familiar with links golf not only from last year, but from his days playing more on the DP World Tour. Rahm won the Irish Open in 2017 and 2019.

He ranks sixth on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained per round (1.805) and remains one of the game’s best ball strikers. Rahm should be able to hold up as well as anybody in expected windy conditions this week.

The big hitter ranks fourth in driving distance (317.7) and is second in greens in regulation (71.67%). If the putter gets hot and his short game isn’t tested too much, it’s feasible Rahm could win this going away.
