Scottie Scheffler doesn’t have a ton of links golf experience, but he acquitted himself well as a newcomer in 2021.

The Texan finished T-12th at the Scottish Open and T-8th at The Open Championship.

An opening 72 at The Renaissance Club was too much to overcome to contend for the title, but he bounced back the next day with 63 and played the weekend in 67-69 to salvage a nice payday.

“I like links golf,” Scheffler was transcribed by ASAP Sports during the 2021 Scottish Open. “I like how you have to be a lot more creative. I felt like I haven’t hit a lot of stock shots this week. It’s a lot more funny would say using the mounds and stuff to get the ball close to the hole versus making it airborne all the time.”

Scheffler got a look at Ireland’s links land, joining the crew of Jordan Spieth, Justin Thomas, and others who teed it up last weekend at Lahinch. It can’t hurt to play a gem of a course like that.

Scheffler’s been the best player in the world over the last five months with four wins and two runner-up finishes. He’s eyeing the Claret Jug next week to go with his Masters green jacket.

The recently turned 26-year-old plays beyond his years. He’s capable in all aspects of the game, even with a bit of a homemade swing.

Scheffler’s missed just one cut all year.

He has finished outside the top 25 just one other time since November.

He ranks 21st on the PGA Tour in strokes gained around the green per round (.335) and is top 50 in every main SG stat.

Growing up in Texas should help Scheffler in expected windy conditions. He rose to the occasion in firm, fast, and breezy conditions at the Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard, for example.
