2022 Genesis Scottish Open: Three Outright Picks to Win
By Mack Gordon
We are in for a treat this week with a stacked field at the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open, as many of the world’s best hope to get a nice test in preparation for the 150th Open Championship.
Fourteen of the top 15 players in the world are in the field this week at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland for the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open.
They will be in for a challenge this week as the course will display thick fescue, plenty of fairway bunkers, big greens, and lots of undulation, which should serve as a solid preview for what’s in store for them at the Old Course next week. Check out the entire field here.
There are plenty of solid options to pinpoint this week for outright picks so I selected three players that I expect to put themselves in contention this week.
Three Outright Picks Who Can Win The 2022 Genesis Scottish Open
Will Zalatoris
Will Zalatoris will tee it up for the first time since his runner-up finish at last month’s U.S. Open. In his short time on tour he has become known as one of the best ball strikers on tour, he’s especially elite with his irons.
He currently leads the PGA Tour in strokes gained approach per round(1.035) on the season. He’s entering the event in outstanding form, with three T5 or better finishes in his last four starts. The 25-year-old has experience in this event, finishing T26 at the 2021 Scottish Open.
If he can get the putter rolling well this week don’t be surprised if he reigns victorious this week ahead of the 150th Open Championship.
Sam Burns
Sam Burns will be looking for his fourth win of the season as he tees it up this week at the 2022 Genesis Scottish Open.
The Shreveport, Louisiana native is in the midst of his best season on tour with wins at the Sanderson Farms Championship, Valspar Championship, and Charles Schwab Challenge. He played well in this event last season, with a T18 finish at the 2021 Scottish Open.
Look for the 25-year-old to put himself in contention this week as he competes against one of the strongest fields of the season.
Lucas Herbert
Lucas Herbert has a history of successful finishes at this event, finishing T4 at both the 2020 and 2021 Scottish Open. He earned his first PGA Tour win earlier this season at the 2021 Butterfield Bermuda Championship.
The Australian should be a solid longshot pick this week with the amount of success and experience he has at this event.
