Despite no PGA Tour or major wins to his name, Will Zalatoris has more than proven himself in the U.S. Another frontier to overcome besides hoisting a trophy is proving he can play well internationally.

He hasn’t had many opportunities to try.

Zalatoris was forced to withdraw from his Open Championship debut last year after round one due to a back injury sustained hitting out of thick rough.

Thankfully, it didn’t set him back for long. Zalatoris finished T-8th a few weeks later in Memphis.

Zalatoris’ trip to The Open Championship last year was his first time as a pro in the Eastern Hemisphere. He made it back for last week’s Scottish Open where he missed the cut by a couple shots.

He was among the handful of big names on the wrong side of the weather draw at The Renaissance Club that was 1.75 shots harder for their wave.

Zalatoris is in no shortage of FedEx Cup points or cash. The more time to start learning St. Andrews, the better.

He’s finished in the top 10 at all three majors in 2022.

And lost in a playoff at the Farmers Insurance Open at a major venue in Torrey Pines.

Zalatoris has three missed cuts in his last six starts, but has never missed two in a row since he burst on the scene in 2020. He only did it once on the Korn Ferry Tour.

The 25-year-old ranks first on the PGA Tour in strokes gained approach per round (.989). He’s 11th in SG off the tee (.605) and can hit the ball as far as anyone pound-for-pound.

With a smart game plan, he can pick and choose spots to let loose and when to let his brilliant iron game do the work.

Slower green speeds may be just what a shaky putter is looking for.
