2022 Open Championship: Top 10 Power Rankings at St. Andrews
Scheffler played well in his Open Championship debut last year at Royal St. George’s. He fired 67-66-69-71 to finish T-8th and was in or around the top 10 throughout the week.
“I’ve always done well on courses that are firm and fast, and so I wasn’t too worried about coming over to play links golf the first time,” Scheffler was transcribed by ASAP Sports during the 2021 Open. “Just needed to figure out the bunkers and the grass around the greens.”
He’s been stellar in all the major championships.
Scheffler won this year’s Masters in impressive fashion and owns six top-10s and nine made cuts (all top-30s) in 11 starts.
Last week at the Genesis Scottish Open, a streak of five straight made cuts was snapped. Scheffler shot 73-72 to MC by two.
Earlier in the week, he fired 3-under over two rounds at Adare Manor to take T-23rd at the J.P. McManus Pro-Am in Ireland.
I like him to shake off a disappointing performance at The Renaissance Club. The last time Scheffler missed a cut, he nearly won the next week at the Charles Schwab Challenge where he finished second and lost in a playoff to Sam Burns.
The former Texas Longhorn hasn’t missed consecutive cuts since January 2021.
Scheffler ranks fourth on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained per round (1.76) and is top 50 in every SG category. He’s seventh in SG approach (.807) and first in greens in regulation (71.43%).
He’s also first in par-5 birdie or better percentage (57.66%).
This will be the 26-year-old’s St. Andrews debut.
