Sungjae Im played well in his one and only 3M Open appearance. The South Korean fired rounds of 65-70-68-67 and made an eagle 3 on the 72nd hole to finish T-15th. Im was tidy at TPC Twin Cities with no double bogeys, got up and down his only time in the sand, and was fourth in the field in scrambling (81.25%).

The 24-year-old shook off a couple of missed cuts recently by making the weekend last week at The Open Championship where he took T-81st. He gained nearly a stroke on the field around the green but couldn’t get the putter to heat up.

Im made the cut in two of the three majors, including T-8th at the Masters. He had to withdraw from the PGA Championship due to a positive Covid test.

Im is seeking his second win of the season and third of his career.

He prevailed last fall at the Shriners Children’s Open. He’s up to six top-10s.

Im ranks 11th in SG tee to green per round (1.308) and is one of the premier ball-strikers in the field. He’s also 12th in total SG (1.468), fifth in SG around the green (.514), and is 71st or better in every SG category.

More fun with stats shows Im is first in hole outs (22), eighth in par-4 scoring (3.97), and fifth in total eagles (12).

Sand doesn’t come into play a ton this week, but ranking 20th in sand saves (59.6%) doesn’t hurt.
