The heater had to run out at some point for J.T. Poston. After a T-2nd at the Travelers Championship and a win at the John Deere Classic to earn a last-second berth into The Open Championship, the Post Man failed to deliver internationally at St. Andrews.

Poston made 13 birdies and made no worse than bogey through two rounds at The Home of Golf, but consecutive 73s left him two shots off the cut line.

He had to be pretty fatigued playing across the pond in his third tournament in a row and sixth in the last seven weeks. The extra couple of days to return to the U.S. and prep for the 3M Open will serve him well.

The Western Carolina grad didn’t make a cut in the fall and failed to record a top-10 until April. A T-3rd at the RBC Heritage was just what he needed to jump-start a 2021-22 season that now features four top-10s.

This will be Poston’s second trip to TPC Twin Cities.

He posted 69-66-76-66 last year. Poston finished eight shots off the lead and played as well as anyone if you take away that woeful Saturday. He responded the next day by matching the low round of the day Sunday.

Poston was top-20 in the field in scrambling and strokes gained approach.

This season, the 29-year-old North Carolinian ranks top-75 on the PGA Tour in strokes gained per round off the tee (.278), around the green (.172), and tee to green (.452).
