The PGA Tour returns to the Land of 10,000 Lakes this week for the 2022 3M Open.

The fourth edition of the 3M Open is set to take place this week as the PGA Tour returns to Blaine, Minnesota, and TPC Twin Cities.

After consecutive weeks in Scotland with incredibly strong fields on hand, we are set for a significantly weaker field this week in Minnesota. Still, the 113 strength of field rating this week is better than that of the John Deere Classics’ a couple of weeks ago.

Hideki Matsuyama, Tony Finau, and Sungjae Im headline this week’s 3M Open field with all three teeing it up this week after their time at St. Andrews last weekend.

Exciting young player Joohyung ‘Tom’ Kim is also in the field this week after being awarded a Special Temporary Membership by the PGA Tour.

Kim, who is the youngest player to join the Tour on a Special Temporary Membership since Joaquin Niemann, has made his last three cuts worldwide, this includes impressive showings at both the U.S. Open (23rd) and the Genesis Scottish Open (3rd).

The Arnold Palmer-designed TPC Twin Cities will provide a test for players off the tee this week with the Par 71 course playing at over 7,400 yards in length and featuring plentiful water hazards throughout.

Good ball-strikers who can find a hot putter this week should do well. Here is how the top 10 favorites for this week’s 3M Open over on WynnBet shake out.

Top 20 Pick: Dylan Frittelli  (+275)

The South African is a player who has the unique ability to succeed in events that demand players rack up the birdies in bunches. Frittelli is certainly capable of that as he ranks 32nd in Eagles made this season.

Dylan is coming off of a nice week in Scotland at the 150th Open Championship where he finished 28th and he has now made three consecutive cuts in a row worldwide.

He has played the 3M Open in each of the last three seasons and he has made the cut in two of those three starts at TPC Twin Cities, this includes an 18th place finish back in 2020.

Frittelli has proven what he is capable of when at his very best, just as he did at the 2019 John Deere Classic when he won a shootout at TPC Deere Run. I like him to continue his run of good form this week and at the very least finish inside of the top 20.

Top 10 Pick: Adam Svensson  (+400)

Adam Svensson is having a terrific season despite the fact that he has yet to win, though it would seem as though a win is only right around the corner for the Canadian at this point.

Svensson was 9th earlier this year at the Honda Classic on another layout that features plentiful amounts of water throughout.

He has reeled off seven consecutive cuts made coming into this week, this includes three top 25 finishes and a 6th place finish at the Barbasol Championship in his last start.

The 28-year-old ranks 8th in strokes gained approach, and 14th in ball-striking, amongst this week’s field. Those are exactly the type of numbers you are looking for in potential contenders this week.

Pick to Win: Sahith Theegala  (+2500)

It has been quite the year for PGA Tour rookie of the year candidate Sahith Theegala, he has come agonizingly close to notching that first PGA Tour victory on two different occasions already this season.

The first came at the WM Phoenix Open in February when Theegala was in contention before an unfortunate break on the 17th brutally ended his hopes.

The second time came just several weeks ago at the Travelers Championship when Theegala held the lead as he made his way to the 18th tee. Unfortunately, it was an errant decision to pull driver that would cost the 24-year-old on that occasion.

Both of the aforementioned close calls came on courses that could be considered solid comparables to TPC Twin Cities.

The Pepperdine University alum is another who is making the trip back across the pond this week, this coming after a solid showing at St. Andrews for Theegala who really only had one bad round at the 150th Open Championship, otherwise, he would have been right in contention, as it was he still managed a respectable 34th place finish.

You have to go back to March and the Players Championship to find the last time that Sahith failed to make a cut.

Theegala ranks top 25 or better in almost every key statistical category amongst the field this week and he comes into this year’s 3M Open having gained strokes with his approach play in his last two PGA Tour starts.

Sahith is certainly one of the more talented players in this week’s weaker field and it seems like the breakthrough win is coming soon for the talented Theegala.

I like his chances to notch that first win in Minnesota this week.
