Fantasy Golf: 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic DFS Picks
By Hans Geevers
This week, the PGA Tour presents fantasy golf fans with the 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic. Let’s take a look at this week’s PGA Tour event from a DFS/fantasy golf perspective!
Before I discuss my fantasy golf player selections I wanted to emphasize that the purpose of this article is not to provide an exact lineup for a specific fantasy provider.
Having stated that, this article will provide multiple player options in an effort to assist the reader in generating a unique lineup that will hopefully have the potential to win a GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest!
Fantasy golf/DFS Player Selections for the 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic
Max Homa
Since the beginning of May, Max Homa has played seven tournaments on the PGA Tour. In those seven events just mentioned, Max Homa has accumulated five top 23 finishes, including a win at the 2022 Wells Fargo Championship.
In relation to this week’s current listed 2022 Rocket Mortgage Classic field, in the last 50 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Max Homa ranks seventh in strokes gained ball striking, 14th in strokes gained putting, 13th in GIR (greens in regulation), and seventh in strokes gained approach.
Max Homa finished 25th at the 2021 Rocket Mortgage Classic.
Danny Willet
The 34-year-old Englishman fired a final round 68 at last week’s 2022 3M Open en route to an eventual seventh-place result.
Due to the fact that Danny Willet performed so well at the 2022 3M Open, I decided to take a hard look at Willet’s player statistics relative to the field.
After four rounds of competitive play at the 2022 3M Open, in relation to the field, Danny Willet ranked tenth in strokes gained tee to green (3.437), 15th in strokes gained around the green (1.774), and tenth in strokes gained putting (5.325).
Danny Willet also finished fourth at the 2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic.
J.J. Spaun
J.J. Spaun won the 2022 Valero Texas Open in April. Spaun followed up that impressive result with a 23rd place result at the 2022 Masters.
Full transparency, Spaun has not played well since that time. That is what J.J. Spaun does. He is inconsistent. He will never pop off a statistical model either.
However, Spaun has played well at the Detroit Golf Club previously. Spaun finished 30th at the 2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic. Spaun arrived at the 2020 Rocket Mortgage Classic on the heels of multiple missed cuts.
In summary, I am going with my gut here and backing Spaun.
Additional golfers I like this week: Patrick Cantlay: Kevin Kisner: Cam Davis: Chris Kirk.
