The newly founded LIV Golf series has already cost the PGA Tour plenty of talented golfers, including multiple Major Champions and veteran stars.

What this rivalry has also done is create more opportunities for young golfers to shoot low scores and cement themselves amongst the World’s best.

No one has made the better of this opportunity more so than 25-year-old Cameron Young.

The American has had a meteoric rise in the Official World Golf Rankings and he looks to cap off his very successful season at the upcoming FedEx Cup Playoffs.

Cameron Young spent his collegiate career attending Wake Forest University, where he experienced a very successful 4 years.

After winning the U.S. Collegiate Championship in his freshman year, he continued to have success with wins at both the General Hackler Invitational and Augusta Haskins Award Invitational during his senior year.

Cameron Young still stands as the only amateur to have won the New York Open.

Young accomplished that during his sophomore season.

After his NCAA career, Cameron Young turned professional in 2019. Starting in both MacKenzie Tour and PGA Latino America events, he worked his way up after numerous top-10 finishes.

In 2021, Young finally earned his PGA Tour Card with a 19th place finish at the end of the Korn Ferry Tour season.

Fast forward to the current 2022 season and Cameron Young’s game has elevated to another level.

The American already has 6 top-10 finishes on the season, most notably his recent 2nd place finish at The Open Championship where he finished just 1 stroke behind eventual winner, Australian Cameron Smith.

Young has remained widely consistent all season, thanks to his impressive average driving distance of 317.6 yards (7th on Tour) and total Strokes Gained numbers (1.323, 17th on Tour).

Prior to the start of this week’s Rocket Mortgage Classic, Young was knocking on the door of the top 10 in both the World Golf Rankings (19th) and FedEx Cup Standings (13th).

Many might think it’s overwhelming to enter the spotlight so fast. Just a kid from a small town outside of New York where golf may not be the biggest focus.

However, Young continues to underplay it and instead lets his play do the talking.

"“It might sound a little improbable, but I’ve been around golf my whole life. that’s just kind of what I do.”"

Cameron Young is a favorite to win this season’s PGA Rookie of the Year award ahead of another bright star in Sahith Theegala. Meanwhile, Young still has some work to do if he wants to compete at the Tour Championship in late August.

The event taking place at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta, Georgia, from August 25-28, will be another test on the road to earning his place amongst current superstars of the game like Scottie Scheffler, Cameron Smith, and Rory McIlroy.
