Another year, another high finish at the Wyndham Championship for Si Woo Kim when he took T-2nd last year.

He won at Sedgefield in his second tournament start in 2016, three years after missing the cut. Rounds of 68-60-64-67 led Kim to a five-shot victory and tied the course record at the time in round two. All at the age of 21.

Brandt Snedeker’s 59 in 2019 is the current record.

Kim made a field-best 26 bogies in victory and led for the week in strokes gained off the tee (5.849) and SG tee to green (15.371). Usually runaways like his are a result of a hot-putting week. He was 56th in SG putting (.720) and left some shots out there!

The mercurial golfer did not defend in 2017 and missed the cut in 2018. He picked back up where he left off back in 2016 by beginning a run of fifth (66-65-68-64) and five shots back in 2019, T-3rd (65-65-62-70) and three back (with an ace on Saturday) in 2020, and a playoff loss in 2021.

Kim exited on the first hole of a six-man, two-hole playoff at the Wyndham Championship last year.

Four of his career top 14 events based on Official World Golf Ranking points earned have come at the Wyndham Championship.

“This course, just kept hitting the fairway and then that’s more easier like a second shot, that’s the most key here,” Kim was transcribed by Tee Scripts in 2020. “And then greens tough, but if not miss short-side, not a big trouble.”

Kim can run hot and cold both in temperament and results. He appears to be on the uptick with a T-15th at The Open Championship and T-14th last week at the Rocket Mortgage Classic. Kim previously missed three straight cuts.

The 27-year-old ranks 39th on the PGA Tour in strokes gained per round off the tee (.352) and SG around the green (.255). He’s also 35th in birdies per round (3.95) and will make a lot of them if his driver and putter cooperate.
