Xander Schauffele may not have been living up to his lofty standards early in the 2021-22 PGA Tour season. He was far from playing poorly, though.

Schauffele hit the throttle this summer with back-to-back wins at the Travelers Championship and Genesis Scottish Open.

He’s on a streak of six straight top-20s dating back to April.

He also had an unofficial 36-hole win at the J.P. McManus Pro-Am in Ireland the week of the Scottish Open.

“I’m playing some of the best golf of my life and capitalizing on playing really well,” Schauffele was transcribed by ASAP Sports after his win in Scotland. “There’s a lot of times all the top players, any player plays professionally plays very well but they don’t get everything out of it and I feel like I’ve been successful in getting the most out of my game.”

Critics will be disappointed with a lack of top-10s in majors and inability to contend at St. Andrews. He wasn’t able to double up in Scotland, but still posted T-15th for his third top-15 in the majors.

It’s been a mixed bag for the former San Diego State Aztec in four trips to TPC Southwind. He made the cut at the 2017 FedEx St. Jude and posted T-6th (68-70-67-66) in 2020. The X Man was just four back that year.

Schauffele ranks fourth on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained per round (1.859). He’s got no glaring weaknesses in his game, as evidenced by top-40 marks in all SG categories.

The 28-year-old leads in sand save percentage (66.67%) and is fifth in birdies per round (4.47).
