The streak of top-20s is over, but Xander Schauffele was at least able to make the cut at the FedEx St. Jude Championship to avoid losing much ground in the FedEx Cup Playoffs.

A T-57th in Memphis only dropped him from fourth to sixth in the standings. Schauffele shot 68-68-73-69. He previously finished T-18th or better in seven straight events.

That span included wins at the Travelers Championship and Genesis Scottish Open. Unofficially, it also included a win at the 36-hole J.P. McManus Pro-Am. Earlier this season, Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay notched a team win at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.

The former San Diego State Aztec ranks eighth on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained per round (1.685). He’s also 45th or better in each SG stat.

Wilmington Country Club’s South Course is not as sandy as the North, but bunker play is still important on a Robert Trent Jones design. The X Man leads the PGA Tour in sand saves (66.67%).

Schauffele is the king of limited field tournaments.

Three of seven PGA Tour wins have come against small fields along with plenty of other high finishes.

He’s got one FedEx Cup Playoffs win at the 2017 Tour Championship.

The 28-year-old ranks fourth in the world per Data Golf as of May 1. Data Golf weighs recent results more heavily and factors in strokes gained. That’s as opposed to the Official World Golf Ranking that has Schauffele sixth and uses results from the past two years in its formula.
