Fantasy Golf: 2022 Fortinet Championship DFS Player Selections

This week, the PGA Tour presents the first event of the new season, the Fortinet Championship. A quality field of talent (including defending champion Max Homa) will arrive in Napa, California, for a chance to win the first tournament of the season. Let’s take a look at this week’s PGA Tour event from a fantasy golf perspective.

Before I discuss my fantasy golf player selections I wanted to emphasize that the purpose of this article is not to provide an exact lineup for a specific fantasy provider.

Having stated that, this article will provide multiple player options in an effort to assist the reader in generating a unique lineup that will hopefully have the potential to win a GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest!

Here are my fantasy golf/DFS player selections for the 2022 Fortinet Championship.

Maverick McNealy

If you are looking for a golfer that plays consistently well in the state of California look no further, I have found your man. That man’s name is Maverick McNealy. Let me be more specific. Seven of Maverick McNealy’s last ten top ten finishes on the PGA Tour took place at golf tournaments in California.

It should also be noted that Maverick McNealy finished second at the 2021 Fortinet Championship.

Trey Mullinax

Trey Mullinax has accumulated four top 21 finishes in his last six tournaments played on the PGA Tour, including a win at the 2022 Barbasol Championship in July.

In relation to this week’s current listed 2022 Fortinet Championship field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Trey Mullinax ranks fifth in strokes gained tee to green, tenth in strokes gained ball striking, and sixth in birdie or better percentage.

Cam Davis

Since the beginning of July, Cam Davis has played six tournaments on the PGA Tour. In those six events just noted, Davis has accumulated five top 16 finishes, including a sixth-place result at the 2022 Barracuda Championship.

Due to the fact that Cam Davis performed so well at the Barracuda Championship, I decided to take a hard look at Davis’s player statistics relative to the field.

After four rounds of competitive play at the 2022 Barracuda Championship, in relation to the field, Cam Davis ranked first in driving distance (367.4 yards), sixth in putting average (1.65), and 11th in GIR (72.2%).

Michael Gligic

The Canadian has accumulated two consecutive top-five finishes on the Korn Ferry Tour, including a fourth-place result at the 2022 Nationwide Children’s Hospital Championship two weeks ago.
