The build-up to the 2022 Presidents Cup over the past couple of months has been anything but a smooth ride as the world of golf continues to fracture in different directions amidst the emergence of the LIV Tour.

The International Team has suffered the most as a result. Players such as Louis Oosthuizen, Cameron Smith, Abraham Ancer, and Joaquin Niemann would have assuredly been locks for captain Trevor Immelman’s side.

With all of that being said, this week presents others with a golden opportunity to shine on what is arguably one of golf’s biggest stages.

The United States Team may be overwhelming favorites heading into this year’s Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, (-800 to be specific); but this is sports and anything can happen.

The home nation will be looking to improve upon its impressive 13-1-1 record in this competition since the Presidents Cup first began back in 1994.

With anticipation building ahead of the 14th edition of golf’s global competition, here is a look at a few under-the-radar players our staff are picking this week who could have a significant impact during the 2022 Presidents Cup.

2022 Presidents Cup Expert Sleeper Picks

Sungjae Im (International Team)

Bill Felber: “If Sungjae Im doesn’t do it for the International Team, nobody does. For that reason, if no other, I look for Im to be the star of this week’s competition, albeit in a losing cause.”

Tony Finau (Team U.S.A)

Sean McCann: “The young American finally made that leap to stardom thanks to his 2 notable victories this season. Anyone that can hit the ball as long as Finau is a nightmare in a match play setting, so look out for him this weekend, especially in the singles play.”

K.H. Lee (International Team)

Josh Chandler: “K.H. Lee may be one of the more underrated players who made the International Presidents Cup Team. The 31-year-old South Korean is coming off a season in which he won the AT&T Byron Nelson last May for a second consecutive year.

K.H. showed real grit outlasting stars like Jordan Spieth, Xander Schauffele, Hideki Matsuyama, Justin Thomas, and Scottie Scheffler, on his way to the title. In addition to his win at TPC Craig Ranch, K.H. Lee also had a handful of top 10 and top 25 finishes throughout the 2021-22 PGA season.

The Presidents Cup rookie has the talent and resolve to rise to the occasion this week in North Carolina as International Team captain Immelman alluded to:

"“K.H. is a proven winner on the PGA TOUR and someone who has performed at a high level around the world for quite some time. With each of his AT&T Byron Nelson wins, he went toe-to-toe with some of the best players in the world, but his final-round charge at the BMW Championship, where he nearly made our top eight automatic qualifiers, showed me a lot about his grit and determination.”"

Don’t sleep on K.H. Lee having an immediate impact this week at Quail Hollow.”
