2022 Sanderson Farms Championship: Top 10 Power Rankings
Christiaan Bezuidenhout is beginning his third season on the PGA Tour and making his Sanderson Farms Championship debut.
The South African advanced through Korn Ferry Tour finals in 2021 to keep his PGA Tour card. Bezuidenhout had some nice results in the 2021-22 campaign. He racked up 10 top-25s, including a career-best T-2nd at the John Deere Classic.
Bezuidenhout advanced to the BMW Championship in the FedEx Cup Playoffs and took T-12th, which wasn’t quite enough to move on to the Tour Championship.
The 28-year-old looked solid in his Presidents Cup debut last week, albeit in limited action. He and Mito Pereira tied Kevin Kisner and Cameron Young in Friday four-ball, he then beat Kevin Kisner 2&1 in Sunday singles.
Bez would have loved to play more matches, but just being a part of the event was a dream come true. He described in his pre-tournament press conference playing a nine-hole course growing up in Delmas, South Africa, that lacked a practice area. He’d hit balls up the third fairway over and over again.
“So to be standing here for a guy like me coming from a small town in South Africa, it means a lot,” Bezuidenhout was transcribed by ASAP Sports. “It’s very rewarding to see how far I’ve come over the last few years.”
He was one of the best putters on the PGA Tour last season. Bezuidenhout ranked sixth in strokes gained per round (.653). He gained strokes in every category except for off the tee, which helped him rank 37th (.753) in total SG.
Living up to the South African stereotype, his bunker play is superb. Bez was fourth in sand saves (64.71%).
