Russell Henley is one of those guys who just never seems to be in jeopardy of losing his PGA Tour card.

He put together another solid season in 2021-22, accumulating four top-10s en route to finishing 45th in the FedEx Cup. His best finish was solo second at the Sony Open of Hawaii where he is a former champion.

A reason Henley makes tons of money is his elite ball striking. He’s perennially among the best iron players, as evidenced again by ranking second on the PGA Tour in strokes gained approach per round (.969). That’s up from sixth (.831) the season prior.

From 50-125 yards, he ranked third in proximity (16’), and from 50-75 he was fifth (10’4”).

Henley was seventh in greens in regulation (70.94%) and 12th in birdies per round (4.21).

He was one of the more underrated players last season, coming in at 16th in total SG (1.192) and 21st in SG around the green (.325).

The putter is the reason he hasn’t won since 2017.

I don’t see the win drought ending, but a top-10 is a strong possibility. Henley has made the cut in both appearances at the Country Club of Jackson. He earned T-14th (69-72-69-67) in 2016 and T-54th (70-70-69-75) in 2019.

The former Georgia Bulldog plays some of his best golf in the fall. In 2021, he produced four top-25s led by T-7th at the Hewlett Packard Enterprise Houston Open.

Henley’s last competition came at the BMW Championship where he took T-35th.
