If at first you don’t succeed, try, try (and try) again. K.H. Lee missed the weekend in his first three trips to the Shriners Children’s Open from 2018 to 2020, but the rising South Korean star finally earned a payday in 2021.

Lee fired rounds of 68-64-71-66. As we’ve seen, it takes four rounds in the 60s to contend at TPC Summerlin, but that’s still a solid week. He climbed 10 spots on the leaderboard with a bogey-free round on Sunday. Lee was fourth in the field in total strokes gained off the tee (3.884) and T-4th in greens in regulation (83.33%).

The 31-year-old is coming off a career season on the PGA Tour. He made the Tour Championship for the first time and finished 27th in the FedEx Cup.

Lee ranked 54th last season in SG off the tee per round (.22) and gained strokes in every category except on approach, where he lost a measly -.009 per round.

Lee successfully defended his title at the AT&T Byron Nelson and finished with eight top-25s. He played well in the playoffs with a T-20th at the FedEx St. Jude Championship and T-5th at the BMW Championship to help him sneak into East Lake.

He was one of the higher performing players on the vanquished International team at the Presidents Cup. Lee posted a 2-1-0 record. He and Tom Kim lost on the 18th hole Thursday in foursomes facing a strong effort by Cameron Young and Collin Morikawa. The duo returned to the same format Saturday and downed Sam Burns and world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler 2&1.

Lee then waxed Billy Horschel 3&1 in Sunday singles.
