It’s all coming up Tom Kim these days. He would have loved for his International team to pull off the massive upset at the Presidents Cup, but it was far from the fault of the 20-year-old phenom.

South Korea’s rising star only finished with a 2-3-0 record at Quail Hollow, but that doesn’t paint the full picture. Kim electrified the golf world with his and Si Woo Kim’s dramatic 2&1 win over Sam Burns and world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler.

The dueling Kims also beat one of the best duos in team golf, Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele.

Tom Kim’s loss in singles came to Max Homa, who finished 4-0-0 and looked a little fresher with one session of rest.

If that was your introduction to Kim, though, that’s on you. He played brilliant golf this summer and earned his way as a captain’s pick in large part from his win in August at the Wyndham Championship. The man blistered the back nine on Sunday at Sedgefield to the tune of 8-under 27 and a 9-under 61 overall when he could coast in for the victory on the back nine.

Kim has been a talent to watch for a few years now, but his trajectory has taken a quick upward turn to allow him to be able to pick his schedule and become a mainstay this soon.

He began 2022 ranked 132nd in the Official World Golf Rankings, thanks primarily to Korean Tour and Asian Tour events. Kim took advantage of a sponsor’s exemption at the AT&T Byron Nelson to finish T-17th.

He added a solo 23rd at the U.S. Open and a solo third at the Genesis Scottish Open to earn special temporary membership on the PGA Tour.

Kim made three more cuts in a row, including seventh at the Rocket Mortgage Classic, to earn enough hypothetical FedEx Cup points to earn his card for 2022-23.

The reason they were hypothetical was he couldn’t use them to get into the FedEx Cup Playoffs unless he won an event, per the fine print of special temporary membership.

So, all Kim did was go out and win the Wyndham. It meant he eventually would play seven weeks in a row in a fantastic run that culminated at the BMW Championship. Kim finished 35th in the FedEx Cup to just miss out on the Tour Championship despite only playing half a season’s worth of events.

This will be Kim’s Shriners Children’s Open debut.
