Rory McIlroy is looking to play well in what may be his last PGA Tour start in 2022. It was a successful 2021-22 season by many accounts, as the Northern Irishman won the 2021 CJ Cup at Summit Club, the 2022 RBC Canadian Open, and the 2022 Tour Championship to claim the FedEx Cup title.

His runner-up finish at the Masters and heartbreaking third-place result at The Open Championship left Rory and his fans wanting, but he still played incredible golf while dealing with being the face of the PGA Tour amidst its battles with the LIV Tour.

The 33-year-old missed just two cuts all season. He’s continued his fine form on the DP World Tour this fall.

McIlroy finished T-2nd against a strong field at the BMW Championship, solo fourth at the DS Automobiles Italian Open, and T-4th at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

He’s making his Congaree debut this week. Rory will be bummed he can’t defend his CJ Cup title back in Las Vegas, but South Carolina’s not a bad state to be in. That’s where he won the 2012 PGA Championship in runaway fashion at Kiawah Island.

McIlroy led the PGA Tour last season in strokes gained per round (2.115) and was second in SG tee to green (1.619). Driving accuracy was one of few statistical drawbacks, but wide corridors in play this week will help mitigate these mistakes.

He was ninth in proximity from the fairway (29’4”). McIlroy was fourth in birdie average (4.53) in 2021-22.
