Justin Thomas is teeing it up for the first time in an individual tournament since finishing fifth at the Tour Championship in August. He shouldn’t be too rusty, though, after playing a part in the American victory at the Presidents Cup last month.

JT went 4-1-0 and served as one of the team’s emotional and performance leaders. He did lose in Sunday singles, but it was a match both he and Si Woo Kim played well in and that went to the 18th hole.

Thomas only won one tournament in 2022, but it was a good one. He famously came back from several shots down on Sunday at the PGA Championship and beat Will Zalatoris in a playoff.

Even though the 29-year-old didn’t win at the rate we’ve come to expect, his consistency and statistics are right up there with his prime years. Thomas missed just two cuts in the 2021-22 PGA Tour season, one of which came the week after his triumph at Southern Hills. He earned eight top-10s, including T-8th at the Masters.

The former Alabama Crimson Tide ranked fourth on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained per round (1.68) and was top 15 in every SG category except for putting, where he still was above average.

He’s got the length to hang at a 7,600-plus yard course this week, coming in at 14th in driving distance (314.3). He can also make birdies in bunches to rank third in per-round average (4.58).

Thomas did not play at Congaree in 2021.
