Matt Fitzpatrick recorded T-12th (71-70-68-69) in his Hero World Challenge debut last year. I expect him to finish a few notches higher this time around.

Whatever he does this week at Albany will be a cherry on top of a phenomenal 2022.

The Englishman not only picked up his first win on American soil; but his first major championship by prevailing at the U.S. Open. It’ll be hard to forget his heroic shot from the fairway bunker on the 72nd hole to preserve the one-shot win over Will Zalatoris and Scottie Scheffler.

It was also a nice redemption story for a man who sputtered when in position to win on Sunday the month prior at the PGA Championship.

The former Northwestern Wildcat has been uber-consistent all year. He had seven top-10s prior to Brookline and four more after.

This fall on the DP World Tour, Fitzy lost in a playoff at the DS Automobiles Italian Open to finish solo second. His last outing came a couple weeks ago at the DP World Tour Championship where he ended T-5th.

Not to mention, he just collected a cool $5 million for finishing eighth in the PGA Tour’s 2022 Player Impact Performance rankings.

Fitzpatrick ranked second on the PGA Tour last season in total strokes gained per round (1.792). Only Rory McIlroy (2.115) was better.

The 28-year-old has been active and in good form, which isn’t the case for some of the guys this week who may only be emerging from their winter hibernation for the week.

I like Fitzpatrick to take this week at the Hero World Challenge fairly seriously and post some low scores.
