2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions: Top 10 Power Rankings at Kapalua
A win is no longer necessary to make it to Kapalua (I think this is dumb), but Scottie Scheffler racked up four of them in 2022 just to be safe.
There may not be anyone more deserving of entry into the Sentry than Scheffler.
He did all his damage in Q1 and early Q2 last year, going on a heater that resulted in trophies from the WM Phoenix Open, Arnold Palmer Invitational, WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play, and the Masters.
If you would have told me that Sunday night when Scheffler was slipping on the green jacket that he wouldn’t win again all year, I’d have been shocked. But that’s golf.
He still had some lofty finishes. The Dallas, Texas native took solo second in his home state and metro area at Colonial.
Scheffler contended at the U.S. Open where he took T-2nd and added a T-3rd at the BMW Championship.
The 26-year-old didn’t bring his best stuff to the Presidents Cup, but fortunately for the Americans, they didn’t need it.
Scheffler bounced back this fall to post T-3rd at the Worldwide Technology Championship at Mayakoba, T-9th at the Cadence Bank Houston Open, and solo second at the Hero World Challenge.
He is making his second Sentry Tournament of Champions appearance. Scheffler’s 2021 debut resulted in T-13th after rounds of 70-66-70-69. Oftentimes, 17-under will equal a win. At this event, you can be left out of the top 10.
Scheffler was fourth in strokes gained around the green (1.899) and fifth in putts per green in regulation (1.648).
With Rory McIlroy not in the field this week, Scheffler can regain his No. 1 spot in the Official World Golf Ranking with a top-three finish this week.
