Tony Finau doesn’t have the most sterling resume at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, but he’s earned a spot in the power rankings based on the form he showed in 2022.

He was thrice a winner on the PGA Tour, earning his way to Kapalua with a win at the 3M Open and following it up with wins at the Rocket Mortgage Classic and Cadence Bank Houston Open.

Finau recorded seven top-10 finishes in the 2021-22 season and missed just five cuts.

He was a key cog on the victorious Presidents Cup team this fall and finished on the top half of an elite leaderboard (seventh) last month at the Hero World Challenge.

This will be Finau’s fourth Sentry TOC appearance.

His 2017 debut was his best effort when he recorded rounds of 70-68-70-70 for T-9th.

Finau took home T-31st in 2021 and T-19th last year.

I would not only expect Finau to continue to get more chances to play at this event, but for him to start piling up top-fives.

A big, sprawling ballpark like Kapalua fits his game. He may not be the best player in the wind, but everything else seems to set up well.

The 33-year-old ranked 15th on the PGA Tour last season in strokes gained off the tee per round (.543). He was 10th in total SG (1.499) and gained strokes in every category.

We’re all still waiting for Finau to step it up in major championships. Until then, events like these are right up his alley to pick off and win.
