Sungjae Im hasn’t missed a cut at Torrey Pines. He’s made all four playing the Farmers Insurance Open every year since 2019 and took T-35th at the 2021 U.S. Open.

He’s finished inside the top 40 in four of five appearances on site and peaked with T-6th at last year’s Farmers.

In 2022, Im’s mediocre 2-under 70 at the North course put him behind the eight ball. He admirably finished at the South in 6-under 66, 68, and 71 to end up two shots out of a playoff.

The 24-year-old South Korean is playing for the fourth week in a row. That’s old hat for our pal Sungjae, so I don’t see fatigue being too big of a factor.

Besides, Im should want to keep playing considering he’s got top-20s in three of his last four starts and has just one missed cut since July.

Last week, he finished T-18th at The American Express. Im was in the 60s all four days and ranked 12th in the field in two rounds at PGA West’s Stadium Course in strokes gained off the tee (1.687).

He was eighth in that statistic per round on the PGA Tour last season (.651) despite sitting just 71st in driving distance (303.7). Im still found a way to rank third in holes per eagle (88).

He was also first in bogey avoidance (12.31%) and third in par-4 scoring (3.95).

With no wins since the 2021 Shriners Children’s Open, it’s high time for Im to get the third of his career.
