2023 Honda Classic: Top 10 Power Rankings at PGA National
The Jacksonville Beach, Florida, resident will hop in his car to head south. This will be Horschel’s 11th Honda Classic start. He’s made just six cuts but five of the last six.
The 36-year-old has cracked the code in recent years with T-8th (73-70-66-69) in 2016, T-4th (70-68-67-68) in 2017, T-16th (67-71-63-67) in 2019, T-42nd (73-67-70-75) in 2020 and T-16th (66-64-68-70) in 2022.
Playing this tournament likely means this will be the third of five straight weeks of action for Horschel. There was still no way he could pass up playing the Honda.
"“When I look at The Honda, I grew up 90 minutes from there. I’m born and raised in the state of Florida,” Horschel said in a quote on TheHondaClassic.com. “My family’s been in the state of Florida for nearly 100 years now. There’s a big Florida Gator contingent down there. So there’s so many reasons why I just couldn’t have skipped this event.”"
Horschel has never won in his home state of Florida. You know he’d love to, and there may not be a better chance than this week.
Horschel has plenty of time to prepare after missing the cut last week at the Genesis Invitational. He did make a cut at another designated event the week prior, taking T-32nd at the WM Phoenix Open.
He also has a T-7th this season against a top-notch field at the CJ Cup.
The Bear Trap has some tough par-3s. Horschel may be able to gain ground there. He ranks first on the PGA Tour in par-3 birdie or better percentage (30.26%) and is third in par-3 scoring average (2.86).
Horschel is usually a strong putter, but his stats have been lacking in 2022-23. Now that he’s back on Bermuda grass, I like him to get it together on the greens and contend in Palm Beach Gardens.
