2023 PLAYERS Championship Odds: Rahm Favored Over Rory
Jon Rahm remains the favorite to win this year’s 2023 PLAYERS Championship at TPC Sawgrass.
The PGA Tour’s flagship event, THE PLAYERS, has finally arrived and despite struggling last week at Bay Hill, it is world number one Jon Rahm who remains the favorite to win this week, not Rory McIlroy.
Jon Rahm’s T39 finish at this past weekend’s Arnold Palmer Invitational was the Spaniard’s worst finish since the Genesis Scottish Open (T-55th) last July, undoubtedly one of the reasons why he maintains the narrow edge over McIlroy heading into the PLAYERS Championship.
His best finishes at TPC Sawgrass include a T9 in 2021 and a T-12th in 2019.
Rahm (+900) headlines an elite field that includes 19 of the world’s top 20 ranked players who will all be competing for the 25 million dollars that is on offer; the second-largest purse on the Tour’s schedule in 2023.
2019 PLAYERS champion, Rory McIlroy (+1100), is fresh off his best result in an event since the end of January.
He sealed a T2 finish at Bay Hill over the weekend, finishing one shot adrift of 2023 Arnold Palmer Invitational winner Kurt Kitayama. It was McIlroy’s first top 10 since the Hero Dubai Desert Classic.
Last week’s winner at Bay Hill, Kitayama, can be found at (+9000) to string together back-to-back wins on Tour.
Last year’s PLAYERS Championship winner, Cameron Smith, will not be in the field at TPC Sawgrass to defend his title after his departure to the LIV Tour last year.
2021 PLAYERS Champion, Justin Thomas (+1300) and last year’s Masters winner, Scottie Scheffler (+1300), are the only other players with odds of under 20/1 at the time of writing. The rest of the current top-listed favorites for the 2023 PLAYERS Championship are listed below.

- Jon Rahm (+900)
- Rory McIlroy (+1100)
- Justin Thomas (+1300)
- Scottie Scheffler (+1300)
- Xander Schauffele (+2400)
- Viktor Hovland (+2400)
- Patrick Cantlay (+2400)
- Max Homa (+2400)
- Collin Morikawa (+2400)
Both Schauffele (+2400) and Cantlay (+2400) have missed the cut in their last three trips to TPC Sawgrass. Xander has made the cut in each of his five starts this year and has recorded top-10 finishes in two of them.
Patrick Cantlay had a slow start to 2023 but comes into this year’s PLAYERS Championship on the back of two top 5s in his last two starts.
A two-time winner this season already, Max Homa (+2400) will be looking for his first win this season on the East Coast. Since the new year, Homa won at the Farmers Insurance Open and has an additional two top 5 finishes in his last five starts.
Viktor Hovland (+2400) missed the cut in his first PLAYERS Championship appearance in 2021 but found himself on the right side of the extreme weather draw last year when he recorded his first top-10 finish at TPC Sawgrass.
He recorded his first top-10 finish of 2023 over the weekend at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and also picked up a win last December in the Hero World Challenge.
Unlike Hovland, Collin Morikawa (+2400) found himself on the wrong end of the heavily weather-impacted 2022 PLAYERS Championship. He missed the cut last year and finished 41st in his only other start at TPC Sawgrass in 2021.
Following consecutive top 5 finishes to begin 2023, Morikawa has since missed the cut in two of his last three starts. He finished T6 at Genesis Invitational a couple of weeks ago.
