2023 Players Championship: Top 10 Power Rankings at TPC Sawgrass
It was unsustainable for Jon Rahm to rattle off top-10s for eternity, but it goes to show what type of talent he is that a T-39th last week at the Arnold Palmer Invitational feels like a disappointment.
The Spaniard recaptured his throne atop the Official World Golf Ranking thanks to a run of nine top-10s, 10 if you count the 18-man exhibition Hero World Challenge, worldwide.
Rahm wasn’t just contending. He was winning.
Rahm was in jeopardy of losing his No. 1 spot by way of his poor week, but Scottie Scheffler needed to finish in a two-way tie for second place at Bay Hill or better and settled for T-4th.
The 28-year-old has made all five cuts at the Players Championship. His best results are T-12th (69-68-64-76) in 2019 and T-21st (72-68-67-73) in 2021.
"“When it comes to the course and the tournament, I think it’s a week that a lot of us look forward to,” Rahm was transcribed by ASAP Sports in 2022. “It’s a course that I’ve played well in the past. It’s a challenging golf course, and it’s one that I enjoy. I for the most part enjoy Pete Dye designs. I enjoy the challenge that he gives us as players…”"
Rahm leads the PGA Tour in total strokes gained per round (2.528), birdies per round (5.32), and scoring average (68.866), just to name a few.
He’s top 33 in every main strokes gained category. Always a great ball striker, Rahm is also seventh in SG putting (.806).
As long as he’s got the driver under control, there’s no reason why he won’t get right back to contending, as he has throughout 2023.
