Tyrrell Hatton to make another run in Austin?

Group 14

Tyrrell Hatton (14) – Russell Henley (31) – Lucas Herbert (46) – Ben Griffin (62)

Pick: Tyrrell Hatton

With three top 6 finishes in his last four starts and three group wins in his last four years at the WGC-Dell Match Play, all signs point to Hatton. The Englishman doesn’t disappoint as he takes advantage of a favorable draw and marches into the next round in Austin.

Group 15

Cameron Young (15) – Sepp Straka (27) – Corey Conners (36) – Davis Thompson (57)

Pick: Corey Conners

Three of the four players in group 15 have a combined two WGC-Dell Match Play events worth of experience between them. Young may be playing better coming into this week, but that doesn’t always matter in Match Play. After being eliminated swiftly in his debut here in 2021, Corey Conners made a run all the way to the semifinals last year. Conners wins the group and sets up a potential matchup against Jon Rahm in the last 16.

Group 16

Sungjae Im (16) – Tommy Fleetwood (24) – J.T. Poston (43) – Maverick McNealy (58)

Pick: Maverick McNealy

Competitive runs in his last two events take a toll on Tommy Fleetwood and leave group 16 wide open. Sungaje Im has a better time at Austin Country Club than he did last year when he finished bottom of his group. He puts up more of a fight this time around and gets a win on the board but it’s not enough to win the group in the end. Instead, Maverick McNealy gets redemption and advances this year after losing out to Kevin Na in a sudden-death playoff in 2022.
