After a missed cut in his Valero Texas Open debut in 2016, Si Woo Kim has had good success at TPC San Antonio.

He’s made five consecutive cuts at the Oaks course since 2017, highlighted by T-4th (66-66-69-72) in 2019.

Kim followed it up with T-23rd (72-72-70-70) in 2021 and T-13th (69-72-68-71) last year.

The South Korean picked up his fourth PGA Tour win by the age of 27 when he prevailed in January at the Sony Open in Hawaii. He’s made five of seven cuts since then with four top-30s, two of which were at designated events.

Last week, Kim finished in second place in his group to miss out on advancing to the knockout rounds by half a point. He dusted Chris Kirk and Viktor Hovland each 4 & 3 before eventual group winner, Matt Kuchar, won 7 & 6 in the decisive match.

Kim is quietly 22nd on the PGA Tour in total strokes gained per round (1.034). He still has ups and downs, as well as temper issues, but Kim has matured and leveled out his consistency both in results and demeanor.

He’s been an elite ball striker this season, ranking 18th in SG tee-to-green (1.013), 43rd in SG off-the-tee (.296), and 22nd in SG approach-the-green (.599).

Putting is still not a strength, but it’s no longer a detriment. Kim was 177th in SG putting (-.404) and is now 94th (.021).

I like him to post another high finish this week where he’s a horse for the course.
