Fantasy Golf: 2023 Wells Fargo Championship DFS Player Selections
By Hans Geevers
This week, the PGA Tour presents fantasy golf fans with the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship. A quality field of talent, including defending champion Max Homa, will compete to win this week’s event. Let’s take a look at this tournament from a fantasy golf perspective!
Before I discuss my fantasy golf player selections I wanted to emphasize that the purpose of this article is not to provide an exact lineup for a specific fantasy provider.
Having stated that, this article will provide multiple player options in an effort to assist the reader in generating a unique lineup that will hopefully have the potential to win a GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest!
Now let’s shift our attention to my fantasy golf selections!
2023 Wells Fargo Championship DFS Selections
Rory McIlroy
Rory McIlroy has accumulated two top-three finishes in his last four events played on the PGA Tour, including a second-place result at the 2023 Arnold Palmer Invitational.
Rory McIlroy certainly checks the box for me when it comes to previous tournament results. Let me be more specific. Since 2012, Rory McIlroy has played this week’s PGA Tour event nine times. In those nine tournaments just noted, McIlroy has accumulated an impressive eight top-ten finishes, including a win at the 2021 Wells Fargo Championship.
Xander Schauffele
The 29-year-old American arrives at this week’s Wells Fargo Championship on the heels of three consecutive top-ten finishes on the PGA tour, including a fourth-place result at the 2023 RBC Heritage three weeks ago.
In relation to this week’s current listed 2023 Wells Fargo Championship field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Xander Schauffele ranks third in GIR (greens in regulation), third in strokes gained on par fives, and 16th in birdie or better percentage.
It should also be noted that Xander Schauffele finished 14th at the 2021 Wells Fargo Championship.
Jason Day
Jason Day has accumulated four top-ten finishes in his last six tournaments played on the PGA Tour, including a fifth-place result at the 2023 Waste Management Phoenix Open in February.
Additionally, Jason Day won the 2018 Wells Fargo Championship.
Patrick Rodgers
Patrick Rodgers has accumulated three consecutive top-19 finishes on the PGA Tour, including a fifth-place result at the 2023 Valero Texas Open last month.
In relation to this week’s current listed 2023 Wells Fargo Championship field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Patrick Rodgers ranks eighth in strokes gained off the tee, third in strokes gained tee to green, and sixth in GIR (greens in regulation).
Additional golfers I like this week: Rickie Fowler: Jordan Spieth: Ben Griffin.
