Rickie Fowler avoiding bogeys and…Snakes?
Rickie Fowler avoided bogeys at the Wells Fargo Championship on Saturday and….Snakes?
Rickie Fowler was focusing on keeping a clean scorecard during the third round of this year’s Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. Little did he know that he would soon be focused on keeping the course clear of slithering reptiles as well.
The affable star is having a resurgent season on the PGA Tour and after several trying years Rickie Fowler has started to resemble the Rickie of old once again.
The 2015 Players Champion has finished 20th or better in seven of his last eight starts on tour and he would have undoubtedly come into this year’s Wells Fargo, the site of his first PGA Tour win, full of confidence.
Following rounds of 71 and 68 over the first two days of this year’s event Rickie was well on track for another solid week. Playing the front nine at Quail Hollow on Saturday Fowler was struggling to improve upon his position at the start of the day, but he was also doing a stand-up job of keeping a clean card.
The 34-year-old Fowler had avoided bogeys with the best of them having parred the first six holes on Quail Hollow’s opening nine. Then on the par 5 7th hole, he faced a completely different proposition entirely.
Rickie Fowler…Snake Charmer?
Having found the water hazard up the right side of the fairway on the par 5 7th for the second time in three days, Rickie suddenly found himself up close and personal with the local wildlife.
It would appear as though Rickie Fowler has no problem whatsoever with ophidiophobia and instead likens himself to a bit of a snake charmer. Rickie elected to get up close and personal with his new slithering friend and Fowler’s fans loved it.

Rickie would go on to save his par after his encounter with his new friend. In fact, his new friend may have charmed the rest of his round on Saturday as well with Rickie going on to birdie his next par 5 and three of his last four holes on Quail Hollow’s back nine.
The eight-time career winner closed out his day with a 68, a result that leaves him well on track for another top-20 finish.
