Fantasy Golf: PGA Championship DFS Player Selections
By Hans Geevers
This week, fantasy golf fans will be presented with the second major championship of the year, the 2023 PGA Championship. Let’s take a look at this prestigious event from a fantasy golf perspective.
The 2023 PGA Championship will be played at the Oak Hill Country Club (East Course) in Rochester, New York. It should be noted that the East Course has previously hosted six major championships, including the 2013 PGA Championship.
Before I discuss my fantasy golf player selections I wanted to emphasize that the purpose of this article is not to provide an exact lineup for a specific fantasy provider.
Having stated that, this article will provide multiple player options in an effort to assist the reader in generating a unique lineup that will hopefully have the potential to win a GPP (guaranteed prize pool) contest!
Here are my fantasy golf/DFS player selections for the 2023 PGA Championship.
Xander Schauffele
Xander Schauffele arrives at this week’s 2023 PGA Championship on the heels of three consecutive top-ten finishes on the PGA Tour, including a second-place result at the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship two weeks ago.
In relation to this week’s current listed 2023 PGA Championship field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Xander Schauffele ranks fourth in strokes gained tee to green, third in GIR (greens in regulation), fifth in birdie or better percentage, and fifth in bogey avoidance.
Xander Schauffele finished 13th at the 2022 PGA Championship.
Tony Finau
Since the beginning of January, Tony Finau has played 11 tournaments on the PGA Tour. In those 11 events just noted, Tony Finau has accumulated seven top 20 finishes, including a win at the 2023 Mexico Open at Vidanta three weeks ago.
In relation to this week’s current listed 2023 PGA Championship field, in the last 12 rounds played on the PGA Tour, Tony Finau ranks second in strokes gained tee to green, fourth in birdie or better percentage, and seventh in strokes gained approach.
Gary Woodland
Two weeks ago, Gary Woodland fired a third round 67 at the 2023 Wells Fargo Championship en route to an eventual 14th-place finish.
I also like the fact that I know Gary Woodland can close the deal at a major championship. Woodland won the 2019 U.S. Open.
Tommy Fleetwood
Tommy Fleetwood has accumulated three top 15 finishes in his last five tournaments played on the PGA Tour, including a third-place result at the 2023 Valspar Championship in March.
It should also be noted that Tommy Fleetwood finished fifth at the 2022 PGA Championship.
Additional golfers I like this week: Jon Rahm: Sungjae Im: Dustin Johnson: Emiliano Grillo.
