105th PGA Championship: Prize Money and Payouts by Position
Breaking down this week’s PGA Championship Purse, Prize Money, and Payouts by position at Oak Hill.
Following a one and a half month hiatus, the second major championship of 2023 finally took place this week at Oak Hill Country Club in New York. The best players in the world descended upon Rochester, NY, for the 105th edition of the PGA Championship.
Surprisingly, the purse for the 2023 PGA Championship came in below that of this year’s designated events. It was also set to be less than the 18 million that was paid out at the Masters in April.
The 2023 PGA Championship continued to increase its prize for its 105th edition, however, after the total purse increased in both 2021 and 2022. It’s now up an additional 2.5 million from last year’s total of 15 million dollars.
The 17.5 million dollars that was up for grabs this week in New York ranked 13th amongst purses that have been dished out thus far in 2023.
The Players Championship in March tops the list after dealing out 25 million to the field who made the trip to TPC Sawgrass. Meanwhile, the standard purse for the newly ‘elevated’ events has averaged a handsome 20 million.
2023’s second major is sure to deliver another incredible and dramatic finish with some of the best players in the world battling it out for the coveted prize.
Will a new major champion be crowned with players like Corey Conners, Viktor Hovland, and Justin Suh looking for their major breakthrough? Or will previous major winners such as Scottie Scheffler, Brooks Koepka, Justin Rose, and Bryson DeChambeau add another massive title to their collection?
Or perhaps at long last, it’s Rory McIlroy’s time to shine again this week at Oak Hill?
Whoever it is that lifts the iconic Wanamaker Trophy on Sunday evening will also take home a cool 3.15 million dollar prize.
Here is the complete breakdown of this week’s 17.5 million dollar purse including payouts by position for everyone who made the weekend in the year’s second major championship.
