2023 Charles Schwab Challenge: Purse and Payouts by Position
Breaking down this week’s 2023 Charles Schwab Challenge Purse, Prize money, and Payouts by position at Colonial.
While this week’s Charles Schwab Challenge purse failed in comparison to the substantial money that was on offer last week at Oak Hill for the 105th PGA Championship, it didn’t keep some of the best players in the game from making the trip to historic Colonial for this week’s PGA Tour event.
As one of the tour’s non-designated events, for this season at least, the prize money on offer over the weekend in Fort Worth, Texas, was a notch below some of the figures the pros have grown accustomed to in the special ‘elevated’ events this year.
The 8.7 million dollar purse for this year’s edition of the Charles Schwab Challenge, while still significant, was even less than what the field received at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson a couple of weeks ago.
Colonial’s purse is more on par with what the field received at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans (8.6 million) last month in Louisiana. It’s also significantly more than what was on offer in Mexico at this year’s Mexico Open at Vidanta, as well.
Still, one week after the second major of the year, some elite talent opted to make the trip down to the Lone Star State for a final time this season. The Charles Schwab Challenge marked the fifth and final event in Texas of the 2022-23 PGA season.
Three players created some distance between themselves and the rest of the chasing pack following three rounds of action at Colonial Country Club, with two of the three vying for their first win on tour during the final round on Sunday.
Both Adam Schenk and Harry Hall, who share the lead following 54 holes of action, will look for their breakthrough victory. Meanwhile, Harris English, who finds himself one shot adrift heading into Sunday, can return to the winners’ circle for the first time since the 2021 Travelers Championship when he outlasted Kramer Hickok in an eight-hole playoff for PGA win number four.
The pack of players hoping for the trio up top to slip up during the final round of action at this year’s Charles Schwab Challenge includes, Emiliano Grillo and Justin Suh (-6), followed by Viktor Hovland, Byeong Hun An, David Lipsky, and Kevin Streelman, all of whom find themselves five shots behind the leaders entering the final round at Colonial CC.
Whoever emerged victorious on Sunday at the Charles Schwab Challenge will have earned a little over 1.5 million dollars for their efforts in Forth Worth this week. Here is the complete prize breakdown by position for this week’s 8.7 million dollar Charles Schwab Challenge purse.
